SRK in award controversy

Shah Rukh Khan has been awarded with the title of ‘Datuk’, an award given by the Malaysian Government. The grandeur of the award is as prestigious as the knighthood award in Britain. In spite of being a non-Malaysian, SRK has been awarded with this award only for promoting Malaysia through his films. SRK has shot six of the films in Malacca and reportedly promoted the tourism of the state. SRK is one of the 750 chosen persons to whom the award will be given. The award is a celebration of the birthday of Malacca's head of state, Mohamad Khalil Yaakoob and it’s his 70th birthday.

But if Malacca Chief Minister Mohamad Ali Rustam is happy to honour SRK with the award, the opposition leader Lim Kit Siang pleads that the award should be given to the local artists rather than an Indian. He also argues that the Chief Minister is biased to SRK, ignoring the fact that Hollywood artists like Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones also have promoted Kuala Lumpur in their film Entrapment in 1999.
